Internship for Vegetable Seeds Research and Development 

 

 

 

Description 

 

Bayer Crop Science R&D team in Bergschenhoek is looking for an Internship Phytopathology.

Your main responsibilities  

  • As Intern Phytopathology, you will be responsible for developing new pathology assays that help to support our breeding activities related to resistance traits in Vegetable crops. 

Activities can include, but are not limited to: 

 

  • Contribute to the implementation of new technologies in the field of plant pathology research. 

  • Design proof of concept experiments and conduct research trials in the lab and greenhouse.  

  • Conduct a literature study to search for leads and provide the required scientific context to your project 

  • Validate the performance of a new pathology protocol by testing its correlation with data from the field  

  • Analyzing phenotypic data set(s) using statistical tools 

  • Keep proper documentation of your research and present your project to an international group of colleagues from R&D. 

Who you are

Functional competences 

  • Knowledge and experience with plant pathology and molecular methods. 

  • Have a desire to attain applied research experience. 

  • Strong communication skills are required for written and oral presentations. 

  • Fluency in English, written as well as spoken, is required 

  • Description of critical skills: self-motivated, creative/innovative, independent, networker, agility, results orientation. 

 
Experience and qualifications 

 

  • Graduate students pursuing a Msc degree in Plant Breeding, BiologyBiotechnology, Plant Pathology or similar field related to Agriculture, who are available for a period of 6-9 months, starting from September 2019 onwards. Juniors in similar degree programs will also be considered.
